This is to address the Independence Day Race at the OffRoad Speedway. Most do not know what we deal with on scheduling here in Norfolk. We have to contend with Big Bang Boom. Tried one year to hold races on the same night. Didn't work.
We then have to take two Saturdays off because of the Conditional Use permit with the city. One of these has to be the during the Madison County Fair. A guy stood up at the meeting and suggested it and we had to go along. The other one is for the Sliver Dollar Nationals to help make it easier for Drivers and Fans to go to I-80. Not a problem.
We did schedule the race on July 1st because we had sponsors to help with the purse and make it more of a special. With the virus problem things did change. We saw a chance to do something other than a Wednesday. We waited to see what Big Bang Boom and what another track was going to do. We changed the the schedule to the 4th of July about 2 weeks ago. Seems nobody noticed.
There was a stir today about plans being made for the 4th and even though a lot seemed ok with it, we decided to go back to the original schedule.
The Independence Day Special will be held on July 1st. The schedule on the website will be changed to reflect this decision.
This leads to another problem. As one commenter said, if it was originally scheduled we should leave it. We had changed the Friday, July 10th race to Saturday, July 11th because the Madison County Fair was canceled. We can assume because it is not a holiday it would not be a problem, but who knows.
Another item that was canceled because of the virus was a Tractor Pull at the OffRoad Speedway. There is now a chance the Tractor Pull will still happen on Aug 15th with the race originally scheduled on Aug 16th. If the Tractor Pull does not happen, do we change to a Saturday.
Yes, this was a long post to say something that could have been said easily in a couple of lines. We do try to respond to the drivers and fans and wanted everyone know there is always more to something than it seems. So let us know about the 2 other dates that may or may not be changed. Also, the kids night will be added to the schedule soon.
